Who I am…

Since there isn’t a formal bio or profile on Classic with Colour, I thought it is about time that I do one. Instead of writing something about myself or getting someone else to do it, here are some facts about me!

Rachel Duggan

1. Fashion is in my blood. My mother is a fashion graduate of Grafton Academy of Dress Designing in Dublin and my sister is a fashion graduate of Limerick School of Art & Design and Fashion Institute of Technology.

2. I am part of a pair. I have an identical twin sister Sarah. (In school, we were always compared to Jessica and Elizabeth of Sweet Valley High. Now it’s more like the Olsen twins).

3. Retail and Service Management was what I studied in college in Dublin, studying Retail Marketing prior to that.

4. Customer service (and a high consistent level) is one thing I am majorly passionate about. High prices and high-end stores still doesn’t guarantee it unfortunately. The topic for my undergrad thesis!

5. I have every Glamour UK Magazine except one from when I was on holiday in Florida in 2002.

6. I love designing dresses, jackets and tops with my great tailor in Al Ain and customizing my own things so no-one else can have the same thing. Going material shopping is something I could do all day long!

7. Promoting and supporting local talent, whatever their discipline, is something I love (and where Classic with Colour came from).

8. I love colour. Bold strong bright colours. Orange. Pink. Red. Turquoise. Blue. Yellow. Green. Purple. And white.

9. For the past 10 years, I have worn the same perfume, Chanel Cristalle, first given to me by my Great-Aunt Angela. Alternated with my other favourite, Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin.

10. My favourite place to return to for holidays is Annapolis, Maryland. Twinned with my hometown Wexford in Ireland, I spent a summer there in 2006 with my friends from school working in Avoca Handweavers. (It also means a pit stop in New York!)

11. Poor quality linen in hotels and restaurants is my pet hate having worked with a major commercial linen company, Celtic Linen, in Ireland on projects with 5 star hotels. In a restaurant I’ll check a linen napkin before the menu!

12. Stationary stores excite me and I am known for always having red pens at hand (the teacher in me!)

13. Loves that amongst Irish people, there is only two degrees of separation. Even when you are half way around the world, in a city in the Middle East, there is a mutual friend who connects two people.

14. October is my favourite month. Wexford Festival Opera is on with a selection of operas, art and craft exhibitions, musical concert and events and creates the most magical atmosphere around my hometown.

15. For 6 years, I worked in an art gallery & shop, Spectrum Art & Framing and the Pigyard Gallery. I have an annual tradition of working there every christmas eve and can’t wait to do it again this year!

A brief insight in Who I am…

Avoca Vintage Market

Avoca is one of Ireland’s best treasures, with 9 locations within Ireland and the North and one of my favourite stores to get lost in for an hour or two (as well as the fantastic place I worked in Annapolis!) Best known for their culinary delights and spectacular salads, kitsch clothing and accessories as well as a variety of their own fashion labels, they now bring you a Vintage Market.

Avoca Vintage Market is now located on the 3rd floor of the Suffolk Street store and features china, cups, cake holders, teapots, silverware, lampshades as well as every other kind of imaginable knickknack and accessory from great sources in France and England and beyond.

Looking forward to a visit and time to enjoy a berry scone with a cup of Earl Grey and The Irish Times next time I am home!
